MATHEWS TX-5 REVIEW | INITIAL IMPRESSIONS
With its short axle-to-axle length of 28″ and draw length range of 23.5″ to 29.5″, it’s obvious that the Mathews TX-5 was designed for bowhunters that are smaller in stature or require a short draw length. That said, this bow performs at a high level, holding true to its published IBO rating of 345 FPS. Much of the TX-5’s performance surely comes from its brace height, a short 5″. However, for individuals with shorter draw lengths — intended for this bow — brace height has less effect on bow forgiveness. Another plus is Mathews’ newly designed riser dovetail mounting system that makes the TX-5 capable of accepting the micro-adjustable QAD Ultrarest Integrate MX.
HOW WE TEST
Each arrow is fired — by hand — 3X through a chronograph placed one arrow-length in front of the bow riser. A decibel meter is placed three feet in front of the bow and three feet below the arrow’s path. Averages of the 3X groups are calculated. KE and M are measured with our calculators. All tests are conducted indoors.
